Welcome to Hickey Elementary and the 2025-2026 school year!
I look forward to meeting and working alongside our entire Hickey community this year, my first year as the principal. This is my fifteenth year in education. I moved to the Dallas area in 2009 and began teaching second grade at Plano ISD’s Shepard Elementary School. After becoming a team leader, I quickly developed a passion for coaching and professional learning. This passion led me to a position as a curriculum and instructional specialist with the Elementary Academic Services department. I served the teachers and students of Plano ISD in that role for three years. As the assistant principal of Daffron Elementary, I enjoyed the opportunity to develop relationships with the students, staff, and families.
My experience in Plano ISD helps me to join the Hickey staff and continue the trajectory of excellence. I believe every teacher can engage, empower, and elevate our students to activate their unique potential in a dynamic world. I will work with our staff to create a supportive environment where students are committed to excellence, dedicated to caring, powered by learning, and always Plano Proud.
Outside of school, I have a wonderful family with four children and two spoiled dogs! They all keep me on my toes! We enjoy tent camping and family game nights.
I am eager to connect with you and the children you entrust to us each school day. I look forward to making positive contributions to the great work already accomplished at Hickey. We are going to have a wonderful school year.
On behalf of myself and this wonderful staff, welcome to Hickey! We are so glad you're an All Star!

Assistant Principal

Jennifer McCarty
Hello! I’m Mrs. McCarty, the Assistant Principal at Hickey Elementary School, and it is truly my pleasure to serve the Hickey community.
I am proud to say that I grew up in Plano, attending Wells Elementary School, Schimelpfenig Middle School, Shepton Junior High, and Plano Senior High School, where I received an exemplary education from one of the best school districts in Texas. After high school, I attended Texas Woman’s University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. A few years later, I obtained a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a Gifted and Talented Texas endorsement from the University of North Texas. Most recently, I earned a second Master’s degree in Educational Administration, including my Principal Certification, from Lamar University. Needless to say, I have a strong love for learning—and an even greater passion for sharing that learning with others.
Throughout my career as an educator, I have taught kindergarten, third grade, and sixth grade as a classroom teacher and have also served as an intervention specialist. However, the majority of my years were spent as a gifted and talented specialist. Prior to becoming the assistant principal at Haun, I proudly served as the PACE teacher at our school. I have been part of the Haun community for nearly a decade, and to me, it truly feels like home. Haun is a welcoming place where students, families, and staff feel valued and supported.
Outside of school, I enjoy relaxing at home with my husband, Dale, and our Labradoodle, Bailey. Spending time with family and friends—whether playing games, cooking out, or traveling together—brings me pure joy.
