Hello. My name is Barrett Bishop and I am proud to be one of the teachers and team lead for 5th grade at Hickey Elementary. I have spent the past 20 years working in the corporate world primarily serving in various Lean / Continuous Improvement, Safety, and Quality roles in manufacturing. Post-COVID I spent Spring 2021 as a full-time substitute teacher where I discovered a passion for education, especially at the Elementary level. As a result I enrolled to get my teaching certification while also serving as the CTA for Hickey Elementary. I became a certified teacher for the fall of 2022.

My wife is also a PISD employee for over 20 years and we have two boys, one in middle school and the other in Senior High both PISD students. Our family also includes two dogs and two cats, all rescued animals, one or more foster cats at any given time, plus the occasional squirrel that will nest in the attic. In my spare time I like to travel, watch movies and tv, play games, read ,or play the Great Highland Bagpipes to “blow off” some steam. You can also hear me as the voice of the Plano East Senior High Marching Panthers at halftime.

My degrees include an MBA in finance and strategic leadership from Southern Methodist University and a BA in Psychology from the University of Arkansas where I was a member of the Razorback marching band. Go Hogs. I am also CPR certified and serve on the Hickey First Response team.
