Hi! My name is Nikki Blacketer, and I am the Hickey Music Teacher!
In music, students will learn to first use the instrument in their bodies - their voice! We will learn music literacy through games, dances, reading, writing, and playing instruments. Here are some events to look forward to this year in music:
5th grade district choir auditions (Plano Children’s Chorale) in September - more information will come soon. Two students will be chosen to represent Hickey!
All 4th grade students - Veteran’s Day music program in November.
All 2nd grade students - a spring music program
4th and 5th grade Hickey choir/recorder club. I alternate years teaching a choir then a recorder club after school so students will be fully informed to make their Fine Arts choices in middle school!
A little about me:
I am a flute player, and I also love to play the ukulele and to sing. I grew up in Allen then went to college at Texas Tech University where I completed my Bachelor’s degrees in music education and in flute performance. I am certified in the Kodály-method of teaching music and firmly believe Zoltan Kodály when he said, “With music, one’s whole future life is brightened. This is such a treasure in life that it helps us over many troubles and difficulties. Music is nourishment, a comforting elixir. Music multiplies all that is beautiful and of value in life.” "
